ROYAL REDEVELOPMENT FOR MAIDENHEAD TOWN CENTRE
Proposals for the redevelopment of a key part of Maidenhead town centre were unveiled today (Tuesday). The new vision will see the area between Queen St and King St transformed into Kings Triangle, a new mixed-use, high-quality shopping destination in the heart of Maidenhead.
The developer, ING Real Estate Development is working closely with the Council on the proposals. Plans would see the creation of a new network of pedestrian-friendly shopping streets with high quality new shops designed to attract big name retailers as well as smaller shops and boutiques. The development will allow new cafes, restaurants and bars that will be able to use the open spaces, creating a vibrant atmosphere during the day and into the evenings.
Space for a large anchor store will be provided at the southern end of Kings Triangle, which is designed to attract more people from the station into the town centre. Planned pedestrian links will make it easier to access High Street, Nicholson’s Centre and New Market. ING is already in advanced discussions with potential occupiers of the big name store.
New homes and potential new office space at Kings Triangle will bring new life into the area and encourage employers to bring more jobs to Maidenhead.
“With Crossrail and new opportunities in the town centre this is an exciting time to be involved in Maidenhead,” said Guy Parker, Chief Executive of ING Real Estate Development, “These plans will open up a new shopping area for local people and visitors. The spacious layout will invite people in from the railway station, draw them into the town centre and complement the existing shopping areas.”
The community is now being invited to have their say on the emerging plans. Guy Parker from ING said, “We want this consultation to be one of the most open and accessible that residents of Maidenhead have ever seen. We’re encouraging people to have their say on our proposals for Kings Triangle in all sorts of ways, from tweeting, texting and going to the website, to more traditional methods such as writing in and calling us.”
The Council, which is the majority landowner of the Kings Triangle site, signed the development agreement with ING Real Estate Development on Friday 18 March. Public consultation on the proposals will take place this summer.
