Female students from Brown’s Taekwon-Do schools in Windsor and Maidenhead recently attended a training seminar and grading held by International Senior Master and Examiner, Wayne Brown, 8th Degree Black Belt.
Students were tested on various elements in ITF Taekwon-Do including basic drills, sparring, self-defence techniques, and where appropriate to age and rank, power and aerial techniques. The ladies learned their results shortly after the grading and there were successful promotions from beginner white belt ranks through to the more senior red belt. Girl Power also goes out to two female 4th Degree Black Belt Instructors who assisted with the grading.
Developed by the late General Choi Hong Hi the Father of Taekwon-Do and Founder of the International Taekwon-Do Federation, 1955 signalled the beginning of Taekwon-Do as a formally recognised art in Korea. Taekwon-Do is a version of unarmed combat designed for the purpose of self-defence. It involves the skilled application of punches, kicks, blocks and dodges with bare hands and feet to the rapid destruction of the moving opponent or opponents. It also implies a way of thinking and life. Heavy emphasis is placed on moral culture, promoting a healthy body, a keen mind, as well as good sportsmanship and good moral behaviour.
If you are interested in learning a martial art that will keep you fit and healthy, improve your confidence and self-esteem, whilst at the same time giving you vital skills of self- defence. We are always happy to see new faces and welcome students of all ages. Come and watch us train, talk to our members and find out if Taekwon-Do could be for you. Training times and locations are:
-Windsor, Gardeners Hall, Tuesday classes: Children 6.15pm, Adults 7pm, Thursday classes: Children 6.30pm, Adults 7pm.
